The maxx-solar academy was founded as South African branch of the German DGS Solarschool. The DGS SolarSchool is the training academy of the German Solar Energy Society DGS. Since 2012 the maxx-solar academy has been training more than 600 South Africans.

The first training in Tanzania “DGS Solar Power Designer Backup” will focus on the possibilities of grid-tied photovoltaic (PV) systems for the daily electricity self consumption and backup in Tanzania. The course is especially interesting for all stakeholders of the PV off-grid sector interested in expanding their business to the profitable grid-tied PV sector.

With annual PV yields of 1500 to 1700 kWh/kWp grid-tied PV electricity can be produced in Tanzania for 200 Tsh/kWh considering a life time of 10 years and only 100 Tsh/kWh considering 20 years.

What is the content of the course?

PV Basics (yield, I-V curve, hands-on exercises with experimental kits and small systems)

Planning and Design of PV backup system (step-by-step calculation exercises based on example systems from site visit to quotation)

Marketing and Customer Consultation (price comparison PV and conventional sources, arguments for the use of PV electricity in cities)

Installation and Operation (site preparation, mounting, monitoring and trouble shooting)

Why should I participate in this course?

The focus of this course is on the design and planning of PV backup systems, including step-by-step calculation exercises based on example systems from site visit to quotation and installation.

After the 5 day course you will know:

  • How to perform site surveys.
  • How to consult your customers to find the right PV system for them.
  • How to design grid-tied PV systems according to the consumption patterns of your customers.
  • How to prepare a feasibility study and quotation for roof-top, grid-tied PV systems with and without battery backup.

Who should participate in the course?

Technicians, engineers, architects and consultants with experience in the PV off-grid market.

(no entry requirements)
